Despite its peaceful appearance and hallowed sounding name the angelfish can be a vicious predators in the wrong environment. They live off small fish and tiny insects which they hunt by lurking in the tall weeds, which their striped camouflage is based on. In captivity they have been bred into other colours besides the natural black and white stripes. Due to their elegant appearance they are a popular pet in tropical freshwater aquariums. There are several other species of angelfish, though they can be very different, like the marine angelfish.
